Leadership

The strength of Swim Design lies in its principals Laurie Swindull and Andrew Iskowitz. They met while studying at the Basel School of Design in Switzerland and brought home a shared appreciation for the organized, clean style learned there. Their individual experiences bring diversity to the creative mix as they approach projects by blending their unique viewpoints into the inventive style they are known for.

Laurie Swindull
Laurie founded Swim Design in 1996. She earned her BA in Graphic Design from The American University in Washington, D.C., and that same year she attended the Yale Summer Program in Graphic Design. She worked at Douglas Harding Group, a multi-discipline design firm and for the Gannett Co. After earning her MFA, she returned to the United States as a designer for Gimga Design Group, designing and managing a variety of printed materials for corporate and non-profit clients. Over the years, she also served as adjunct professor at The American University, Corcoran School of Art + Design, and the University of Baltimore.

Andrew Iskowitz
Andrew joined Swim Design in 1997. He earned his BFA in Graphic Design at The University of The Arts in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and his MFA from the Basel School of Design in Basel, Switzerland. He began his career in New York City as a designer at Carbone Smolan Associates and later moved to Kass Uehling, Inc., focusing on corporate identity and print collateral. The year following his MFA studies, he served as assistant professor at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, teaching all levels of undergraduate design classes and computer production. After moving to Washington, he continued to keep a hand in teaching as an adjunct professor at The American University and Corcoran School of Art and Design.

During his tenure at Swim he has been responsible for planning and designing Web sites for major museums, conceptualizing kiosk-based educational interactives and developing a comprehensive, user-friendly content management system.

His skills span a variety of disciplines, including brand strategy, corporate communications, corporate identity, Web site design, dynamic flash-based interactives, ecommerce, HTML email marketing, and more.
